What is Honestly Made?

Our Honestly Made range of musical instruments is produced and imported from developing nations in Africa, Asia and South America. The range is crafted by small suppliers using responsibly sourced materials and aims to be sustainable in every way.

How does a product qualify as Honestly Made?

Most of these products are manufactured in independent family workshops that are too small to join Fair Trade groups and some of these countries do not have such organisations. However we can vouch that our supplies and their smaller suppliers follow Fair Trade principles.

What about packaging?

Many of the goods we receive from developing countries are packaged in recycled plastic and we sometimes reuse this material when packing and shipping goods to our customers, maybe you will also find a good use for it too.

Minimise single use plastics and reduce waste

Minimising single use plastics

A key aspect of honestly made is minimising the use of SUP’s (singe use plastics) – in fact, many of our Honestly Made products are making good use of waste plastic in their production.

Reducing waste

Another is the reduction of waste – both by using waste products in the production of these instruments (e.g. our PP626 Pangi seed shaker uses seed husks left over from Indonesian cooking), and also by utilising any material that would traditionally be thrown away at the end of the process.

For example, the waste woodchips created in the making of the PP623 wooden frog shaker is used to fire the kiln to dry the product, and the sawdust is sent to a local mushroom farm!

Intricate designs

Intricate, hand-crafted designs are a primary feature of many of the Honestly Made range from Percussion Plus. A benefit of these products being handmade from small suppliers, each design is slightly different, so your instrument is truly unique to you.

Where possible, the materials used are locally, and always responsibly, sourced and crafted into instruments using traditional methods.
